Inventory

by Zeke Shomler

Petal, sepal, ovary. Warm
vanilla mouth. Bird wing

severed cleanly at the joint.
Churning river foaming

creamy-white, the bloody lips
of trout. Curling stomach hair,

sour sweat and musk
like something rooted

in damp earth. Meadow,
grassland, estuary.

Lonely rabbit heart.
Ventricle and atrium. The way

I have become myself
in violent fits and starts.

Zeke Shomler (he/him) is an MA/MFA candidate at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His work has appeared in Cordite, Sierra Nevada Review, Anodyne, and elsewhere.
